Steel shoes. Wet concrete. Grooves fix it.

A shod hoof on smooth wet concrete has nothing to hold onto. We cut grooves into your existing stable floors, wash bays and walkways so horses walk on with confidence instead of picking their way across.

A horse only has to slip once

Steel shoes are hard and smooth. So is a trowelled concrete floor. Put water on it — a wash bay, a hosed-out stable, rain blowing into a walkway — and there is nothing left for the shoe to grip.

A horse that slips does not just get up and carry on. It remembers. It starts rushing the bad patch, or planting its feet and refusing it. Now you are fighting the horse every time you lead it through, and a nervous horse on slippery concrete is how people get hurt.

The real cost is the one you cannot plan for: a pulled tendon, a splayed leg, a vet bill, weeks off work, and an animal that may never be quite the same. Against that, grooving the floor is cheap.

Where we groove

  • Wash bays — wet every single day, the worst surface on the property
  • Stable floors and doorways
  • Walkways and breezeways between blocks
  • Tie-up and grooming areas
  • Float loading pads and ramps
  • Yards, arenas surrounds, and the concrete run to the paddock gate

Why grooving beats the alternatives

Rubber matting works until it lifts, curls or traps water underneath, and it has to be replaced. Acid etching and coatings wear off under steel shoes — usually fastest exactly where the traffic is heaviest. Both are surfaces laid on top of your concrete, and anything laid on top eventually comes off.

Grooving is cut into the slab itself. There is nothing to peel, nothing to lift, nothing to sweep out from under. The grooves also channel water away instead of letting it sit in a sheet across the floor, so the surface dries faster and stays cleaner.

We cut with a wet saw, so there is no dust through the stable block and no grinding mess to clean up afterwards.

What you get

  • Grip for shod and unshod hooves, wet or dry
  • Cut into your existing concrete — no matting, no coatings, nothing to replace
  • Water channels off the surface instead of sitting on it
  • Wet-saw cutting — no dust through the stables
  • Most jobs done in a day, so horses are back in their routine
  • 100% lifetime guarantee — for the lifespan of your concrete.
