The two main alternatives are scabbling and rubber matting. Scabbling might look appealing due to its cheaper price, but it doesn't last — the rough texture makes washdown more difficult and traps effluent, while the harsh surface can cause severe hoof wear and lameness. Rubber matting is comfortable in stationary standing areas like backing gates or the parlour exit, but it is the most expensive option, and moisture and pathogens can collect beneath the panels while mats tear and shift in high-traffic areas. We strongly advise against it, and we generally don't do partial patch jobs. Slippery concrete isn't an isolated problem — if cows are losing their footing in one spot, patching just "the slippery bit" usually just shifts the danger zone a few metres down the yard. It doesn't solve the overall safety issue, and it leaves your herd at risk. Think of it like your car: you wouldn't just replace one bald tyre and leave the other three smooth.

From a practical side, traveling a long distance for a tiny area isn't cost-effective for you or feasible for us. Doing the job properly means treating a complete, substantial zone — smaller spot jobs often don't meet our minimum travel and setup requirements. Doing it right the first time saves everyone time, secures your investment, and properly protects your cows.

No. We use a wet-saw diamond blade to cut precise grooves into the surface without breaking, chipping, or weakening the slab. There's no coating, no grinding damage, and no structural impact when done correctly. The concrete stays intact and is safer and more functional.

The grooving lasts for the lifetime of your concrete. The grooves are cut into the concrete itself, not applied on top, so they don't peel, flake, or wear off like coatings.

No. We use a wet-cutting method, so there is zero dust or airborne debris. The remaining slurry can be easily cleared away using your normal yard washdown procedures.

Most farms can be completed within a day, between milkings. It depends on the size of the area. Larger yards, feedpads, or car parks may take multiple days depending on size and layout, but we can work around your workload or milking times to ensure there is minimal disruption to your daily routine.

Yes. As long as the concrete is structurally sound, we can groove it. In fact, older surfaces often benefit the most because they tend to be the slipperiest.

Yes, that is exactly what it is designed for. Once completed, the pattern channels water and effluent away to give your cows grip in wet or muddy yards. However, the surface must be completely cleaned and washed down before we can start the grooving process.

Yes. While the main job is keeping cows on their feet, the extra grip makes a huge difference for staff, side-by-sides, and tractors. It significantly cuts down the risk of slips and accidents for everyone working in the yard, especially during wet winter milkings.

Very little, because we always work around your milking times. However, once we start cutting, we need clear access to the area with absolutely no foot traffic from people or livestock. As soon as we finish and the yard is washed down, it is ready for immediate use.
